About North Okanagan Valley Gleaner's Society...

The North Okanagan Valley Gleaners Society was created in the summer of 2007 in order to establish a facility for dehydrating vegetables and fruits grown in the North Okanagan. As a result of encouragement and the support of all at the first meeting it was decided to incorporate a Society with the express purpose of sourcing, processing and distributing food for the hungry. The original site which was being donated was rejected by the Agricultural Land Commission in the Spring of 2008 but was quickly replaced by another site which is even better, and there is an intense effort at present to get approval from the government departments so that we can begin operations. The Gleaner operation will be modeled as much as possible on the original conception put forward by Okanagan Gleaners in Oliver, BC which relies on a volunteer work force and donated foods. Their operation is able to provide an average of 5-6 million servings of food each year as well as other donated products. By working together with the other gleaner operations we will be as effective. None of this would be possible without the generous support both in money and time of countless people who have a heart for this ministry.
